Although technically the side-kick, or deputy, to the main character of Sheriff Quick Draw, he is often portrayed as the more intelligent half of the duo at times realizing some detail about a given situation and trying desperately without success to caution QuickDraw of a trap or other danger. Quick Draw was often accompanied by his deputy, a Mexican burro named Baba Looey (voiced by Daws Butler and his name being a word play on Desi Arnaz's hit song called "Babalu"). Quick Draw (voiced by Daws Butler) was usually depicted as a sheriff in these segments set in the American Old West. The series was previously aired on Cartoon Network untill 2000 and currently, the show is aired on the Cartoon Network's sister channel, Boomerang, the Canadian station Teletoon Retro and occasionally on the Infinity channel, broadcasting in the Middle East. Television (through their 1996 purchase of Turner). Screen Gems originally syndicated the series, followed later by Rhodes Productions, Taft H-B Program Sales, Worldvision Enterprises, then Turner Broadcasting, and now Warner Bros. Michael Maltese crafted most of the episode stories. The series featured 3 cartoons per episode, one each by Quick Draw McGraw & Baba Looey, father and son dog duo Augie Doggie & Doggie Daddy, and cat and mouse detectives Snooper & Blabber. Voice actor Daws Butler performed the lead character, Quick Draw. The show debuted in syndication in the fall of 1959, sponsored by Kellogg's. In short, they violate the tenets of Political Correctness.Status Ended The Quick Draw McGraw Show is the third cartoon television production created by Hanna-Barbera, starring an anthropomorphic cartoon horse named Quick Draw McGraw following their success with Ruff and Reddy and The Huckleberry Hound Show. He belongs to the same school of characters as Warner Brothers' SPEEDY GONZALEZ and UPA's GO GO GOMEZ (from the DICK TRACY animated show). Baba-Louie probably couldn't exist today if the series were to have been created today. His relationship with the star, Quick Draw, is similar to that of BOO-BOO's to YOGI BEAR. Short and comical, BABA-LOUIE is a burro with a Mexican Accent & Sombereo to boot. WE MUST MAKE mention of "Qweeks Draw's" sidekick. Instead of a sword, El Kabong strikes his opponent over his cranium with his GUITAR! The resulting ka-bong sound gives us the name. IN AN ATTEMPT to capitalize on the then very popular Disney ZORRO TV Series, a sort of subplot developed in the QUICK DRAW Cartoons when Quick Draw, himself, took on a masked double identity as "EL KABONG"! Decked out in a very Zorro-like get up, replete with tango-style hat and stringed bolas. "Snoop" has his voice patterned after actor Tom D'Andrea and "Blab" is sort of high-pitched with a pronounced slur. THE QUICK DRAW McGraw show did likewise, but this time the back-up features were AUGIE DOGGIE & his DOGGIE DADDY (with the Jimmy Duarante voice) and detective spoof of SUPER SNOOPER & BLABBER MOUSE. In between there were 6 minutes of YOGI BEAR (with BOO-BOO and Ranger Smith) and a PIXIE & DIXIE Cartoon (Mice) featuring the Beatnik-like Cat/Nemisis, MR. WHERERAS HUCK'S SHOW featured two Huckleberry Hound cartoons in book end positions (first & last). With the release of QUICK DRAW McGRAW, the same format was followed verbatim. FOLLOWING THEIR SUCCESS with their first syndicated cartoon show in THE HUCKLEBERRY HOUND Show, Hanna-Barbera Productions followed it up about a year or so later.
